Dream Track 2.0: YouTube Lets Creators Restyle Songs Using AI Descriptions

YouTube Expands AI-Powered Music Creation with New Remix Feature

YouTube is ramping up its AI music initiatives by introducing a new feature to its Dream Track toolset, allowing creators to remix songs through descriptive prompts. This addition builds on the platform’s efforts to empower creators with innovative ways to produce and personalize content, using AI to transform music tracks while retaining their core elements.

Creators Can Now “Restyle” Tracks
In the latest update, YouTube has enabled select creators to experiment with a feature called “Restyle a Track.” By choosing this option, users can input a description of how they want to alter the song’s genre, mood, or style. The AI will then generate a customized 30-second snippet, which creators can incorporate into their Shorts videos.

“If you want to give a song a different genre or mood, you simply enter your vision into the ‘Restyle a track’ prompt and you’ll soon have a customized soundtrack that reimagines the music while maintaining the essence of the original song’s vocals and lyrics,” YouTube explained in its announcement.

The feature ensures transparency by crediting original tracks in the Shorts video and labeling remixed versions as AI-modified. This approach helps bridge the gap between creative innovation and music rights protection.

Powered by DeepMind’s Lyria Model
The Dream Track toolset, first launched in November 2023, relies on Google DeepMind’s Lyria music generation model. Beyond remixing, the suite previously introduced a tool allowing users to create music by humming a tune.

The latest expansion is part of YouTube’s broader push to incorporate AI into creative workflows while addressing potential copyright concerns.

Collaborating with Artists and Rights Holders
To preempt backlash from the music industry, YouTube announced a partnership with Universal Music Group (UMG) last August. This collaboration focuses on compensating artists and rights holders for the use of their work in AI-powered tools. The platform has also brought onboard major artists like Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Sia, T-Pain, and Troye Sivan for its AI-generated song experiments.

Rising Competition in AI-Driven Music
YouTube isn’t alone in this space. Startups like Hook, founded by former JioSaavn executive Gaurav Sharma, are also exploring AI-driven music remixing for short-form video creators.

By blending creativity with AI, YouTube aims to solidify its position as a leading platform for video creators, music enthusiasts, and innovators alike.
