Shortly after the launch of Gemini, Google’s ambitious language model, the tech giant is already introducing its successor. In a bold move, Google is unveiling Gemini 1.5, positioning it as a versatile business tool and personal assistant, signaling a significant leap in the AI industry.
Gemini 1.5 Pro Emerges:
Gemini 1.5 Pro, Google’s latest general-purpose model, boasts impressive capabilities, rivaling the recently released Gemini Ultra. Outperforming its predecessor Gemini 1.0 Pro by 87% in tests, it utilizes the innovative “Mixture of Experts” (MoE) technique. This enables the model to process specific portions of the overall model, enhancing speed and efficiency.
The standout feature of Gemini 1.5 is its colossal contextual window, spanning 1 million tokens, enabling the model to handle extensive queries and process vast amounts of information simultaneously. Google CEO Sundar Pichai emphasizes the potential of this feature, envisioning applications in fields like filmmaking and finance.
Business-Centric Approach:
Pichai highlights the utility of a large contextual window for businesses, allowing for the integration of personal context and information at the time of the query. Filmmakers can seek reviews on their entire movies, and companies can analyze vast financial records concurrently. Pichai calls it one of Google’s biggest breakthroughs.
Initially available to business users and developers through Google’s Vertex AI and AI Studio, Gemini 1.5 Pro is expected to replace Gemini 1.0. The standard version for general users, Gemini Pro 1.5, will feature a contextual window of 128,000 tokens, with the option to upgrade for a million tokens, albeit at an additional cost.
Race for AI Supremacy:
Google finds itself in a fierce competition with other tech giants like OpenAI in the race to develop the best AI tool. While Gemini appears promising, challenges lie ahead as competitors, like OpenAI, unveil their own advancements in AI technology, such as memory for ChatGPT and web search capabilities.
From Bard to Gemini:
Previously known as Bard, Google’s AI-based chatbot has now been rebranded as Gemini. Operating in over 40 languages and across 230 countries, it is already running with the Pro 1.0 model, with the addition of two new features: Gemini Advanced and a dedicated mobile app.
Gemini Advanced Unleashed:
Gemini Advanced, linked to Google Ultra 1.0’s advanced AI model, excels in complex tasks like coding, logical thinking, and collaborative projects. Offering extended and more detailed conversations, it acts as a personal tutor, aiding in advanced coding scenarios and assisting digital content creators in generating new content and analyzing trends.
Available in over 150 countries and in English initially, Gemini Advanced is part of the new Google One AI premium pricing plan. Subscribers gain access to enhanced multimodal capabilities, interactive coding features, and deeper data analysis.
Mobile Experience Unleashed:
Google is rolling out mobile experiences for Gemini and Gemini Advanced, with new apps on Android and Google on iOS. Users can now access Gemini on-the-go, utilizing features such as image recognition for repair instructions or creating customized images for invitations.
The Gemini app, accessible through Google Assistant, provides contextual help and overlays for tasks like captioning photos or asking questions about articles. The Google One AI premium plan offers a free trial for the initial two months, costing $19.99 per month thereafter.
Global Rollout:
Gemini will gradually appear on Android and iOS phones in the US, expanding to more regions in English, Japanese, and Korean in the coming weeks. Google’s push towards democratizing AI access signals a transformative era in how users interact with artificial intelligence.
