Samsung dropped a tantalizing hint about its upcoming innovation – the Galaxy Ring, a smart ring promising to be a “powerful and affordable” addition to the fitness device lineup.
Details are scarce, with only a render and a name revealed at this stage. Samsung remains tight-lipped about specs, pricing, or a release date, emphasizing its focus on health capabilities. The company had previously hinted at the Galaxy Ring’s existence when filing a patent for a smart ring designed to offer ECG readings and smart home management. The Health app further confirmed the device’s existence.
In an exclusive interview with Techradar, Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience, Patrick Chomet, hinted at the Galaxy Ring’s unique features, particularly in sleep tracking. Chomet stated, “We’re creating some things with Samsung Health that are really amazing (regarding sleep). There’s already hardware and software. But we’re looking to create a complete package that people will use at scale. That will happen later this year.”
Given Chomet’s remarks, it is speculated that the Galaxy Ring will make its official debut at the upcoming Unpacked event, anticipated between July and August. Samsung has also hinted at a significant Health program update later in the year, suggesting a synchronized launch with the Galaxy Ring.
While Samsung may not be the first in the smart ring arena, with Oura already making waves, the Galaxy Ring is expected to rival its counterparts. The Oura Ring, with its third-generation released in 2022, tracks sleep, monitors heart rate during workouts, and measures daily activity. The Galaxy Ring is anticipated to offer similar functionalities while incorporating advancements in AI, promising an exciting array of features.
As the world eagerly awaits more details, Samsung’s foray into the smart ring market signifies a new frontier in affordable and powerful health-focused wearables, hinting at a paradigm shift in the way we approach fitness and well-being.
